Exploring Hailgalad: A Kingdom’s Journey to Independence

Hailgalad is a kingdom that was born out of tribal herdsmen. After years under the thumb of outside powers, they banded together and won their independence from the empire of Vaelor. The people of this land accomplished this largely due to the leadership of their first monarch, Eardred I.

Their banners and royal guard are draped in deep red with a white horse head at the center. The red is meant to symbolize the sacrifice of their people and the animal is honored as the beast that helped them gain independence.

The kingdom contains vast fields of grass called the Fields of Aeros. On these fields, the greatest mounts in all the land are raised. It is for that reason that Hailgalad is sought after by other kingdoms.

Near the kingdom’s center is its capital, Hailgrad. It is the shining white jewel of the kingdom. White stone and birch roof buildings fill the city while beautiful ivy covers their walls. The palace stands on a plateau in the center of the settlement, surrounded by the villas of wealthy Hailgaladrians. The place for the capital was chosen because it was the spot of Eardred I’s family home.

North of the capital, one can follow the Northwood Road that mirrors the Frostfall River. This road ends at the northernmost Hailgaladrian town, Frostwatch. This region is governed by a governor that is appointed by the king and queen. North of this town is the vast tundra known as the White Mountains, which is where the northfolk tribes call home. There is ancient magic of ages long past that requires watchful eyes and vigilant hands to keep the kingdom safe.

East of Hailgrad, follows the Frostfall to find the Royal Training Academy of Anorad. There, the elite of the kingdom train to become the next generation of leaders. Many of the wise call this settlement home and have trained all the great souls of Hailgalad.

Further beyond the academy is the city called Mendale. This city stands upon the rocky cliffs that border the vast eastern sea. A governor is also appointed to oversee these lands. This appointee is often one savvy in business since goods from lands near and far are brought to this city’s docks to be distributed throughout the kingdom and beyond.

South of Hailgrad, the Fields of Aeros stretch to the towering southern mountain ranges that are largely ruled by the Kaboutian people. Before those foothills, however, the lone peak called the Iron Mountain stands. This mountain was once called Finrathud and was the prize from a long-fought stalemate between the Hailgaladrians and Kaboutians. The Iron Mountain is run by a governor who has experience in leading armies. It is a dangerous place, much like Frostwatch, being so far from the other cities. This settlement is the primary creator of arms and armor for the Royal Armies of Hailgalad.

West of Hailgrad lies the city of Javailty. The city is an old remnant of Vaelor and served as its main base of operations when Hailgrad was under the empire’s thumb. The seat of power in this city is held by the fourth governor of Hailgalad.

Beyond Javailty is the tenuous border between Hailgalad and Vaelor. The border is under constant flux as troops of each kingdom have a never-ending cycle of conflict to gain the upper hand.

  1. […] Hailgalad: The people of Hailgalad are a newer kingdom compared to those that accompany them on this continent. They were once tribal herdsmen who lived in small villages. That was when Vaelor conquered their lands and used their prized horses for the golden army. One day, they united under one banner and overthrew the Vaelorans. What followed was the formation of the Kingdom of Hailgalad. More about these people can be found here: Exploring Hailgalad: A Kingdom’s Journey to Independence. […]
